We love NutritionFacts.org at Immunence.com as our go-to source for honest, unadulterated nutrition research!
One of the most FRUSTRATING things I discovered when I started the journey to improve my understanding of nutrition and health was all the contradictory information available online and even contradictory ‘science’!
How on earth do you work out who to believe and who not to believe in today’s over-saturated, totally contradictory and largely anecdotal online space?
Well, I’ll quote the words of one of my nutritional heroes, Dr Michael Greger, who says “A plant-based diet is the only diet proven to reverse heart disease. If that’s all a whole-food, plant-based diet can do—reverse our number-one killer—shouldn’t that be the default diet until proven otherwise?”
So why do I believe Dr. Gregor over other so-called ‘experts’? Because of his fantastic, totally FREE, non-profit resource, NutritionFacts.org.
In his words, the site is a ‘labour of love’, a tribute to his grandmother who was sent home to die with end-stage heart disease at just 65 and went on to live until she was 96 thanks to a healthy plant-based diet.
NutritionFacts.org has no ads and no corporate sponsorship. It’s strictly non-commercial and he’s not selling anything. He has over 2000 volunteers scanning all the scientific literature in order to create simplified, easy-to-digest, summaries in the form of catchy short vlogs or blogs.
If you have any nutrition-based questions, I highly recommend that you do a search there first. I have no commercial arrangement with NutritionFacts.org, I’m just sharing the information because it’s been so invaluable to me over the last 5 years in terms of separating the anecdotal and sponsored from the “real” science and creating huge positive impacts on Jose’s and my health.
By the way – I define ‘real’ science as randomized, double-blind, placebo-control, (RDBPC) studies which have preferably been peer-reviewed and have no conflicts of interests in funding – for example – the Egg board funding a study that discovers eggs are good for you. You tend to find these kinds of studies on morning TV shows. 😉
